As the name CPR-30/PCB itself implies this machine is made for PCB milling and drilling. This machine has an extremely high precision and has all the required accessories to produce PCB’s in a fast and easy way.
But this machine has more to offer: machining electronics cabinets and manufacturing front panels is no problem at all. All this can be done in a professional way because of the motor-driven Z-axis and the face-milled aluminium T-nut table.
Purchasing a CPR-30/PCB means raising your lab’s productivity enormously.
The technology
Milling tracks and pads requires high precision and special software. The CPR-30/PCB cannot be compared with the standard CBR range: construction, guidings, traction as well as the software are different.
This machine is equipped with high-quality components which guarantees long-life cycle and a superb milling result.
High precision linear guidings
In the PCB machine, profile rail guidings are used. In this way high-precision positioning and movement are possible.
Because rolling resistance is used, high speed with low power can be obtained. These guidings have an extremely long life-expectancy.
“Zero Backlash”
The high-level machines use ball lead screws.
They are nuts that are filled with small balls that glide over a spindle (screw thread). The standard systems however have a small bit of play. Having no play would cause the nut to block. This small bit of play causes some deviations which are nearly visible in common milling work, but come clearly forward when milling PCB’s. The Colinbus CPR-30/PCB uses “Zero Backlash” technology. Special nuts are used that undo the “backlash” – as this play is called.
Unique Z-axis
With the CPR-30/PCB several jobs can be done: milling PCB’s and different kinds of materials but also the more common milling jobs as for example milling holes in cabinets or front panels. All thanks to the active Z-axis of the machine. It is not a solenoid that is moving the head up and down as is mostly the case with PCB machines but the CPR-30/PCB uses a motor and spindle in order to have an active range of 4 cm. You can work with the unique built-in “floating” system which makes sure that the milling head will follow the surface of the material or you shift to milling in which case the Z-axis behaves in the similar way as in a standard milling machine.
High-precision adjustable milling head
As with all engraving machines the milling depth can be adjusted accurately which is necessary to have milling tracks with a constant width. Especially in the case of conical tools one can see a variety in depth. In the case of PCB’s this could cause short circuits or lead to tracks being milled away.
Built-in cyclone head guarantees perfect dust extraction
Dust is not only unhealthy but leads to low quality milling results. If dirt remains on the PCB than the depth limiter gives wrong information and as a result the milling depth will not be correct. That is why the Colinbus CPR-30/PCB has a cyclone dust extraction system. The dust is extracted in the milling head itself. This way dirt cannot get near or under the depth limiter.
Multi-functional fixation table
A heavy face-milled T-nut table forms the basics of a Colinbus milling machine. This table in combination with the flexible software gives the user the possibility to fix the material in a number of different ways: by means of a movable strip in the middle of the machine, by corner alignment or by entering a new zero point anywhere on the table. Thanks to this system the machine is not limited to any specific use. Apart from PCB's other work pieces can be clamped as well:
small cabinets and front panels for example. If needed a vacuum table (optional) can be placed on top of the T-nut table.
Stable construction
Most of the Colinbus machines are built out of a combination of steel and aluminium. This makes the moving parts light and rigid and the overall machine strong and stable which is very important especially for a PCB milling machine. For the production of printed circuits it is very important that the machine is able to mill fine structures at a relatively high speed and this is exactly what the Colinbus machines are designed for. The four heavy linear guidings are part of this. This kind of guiding is used in heavy and precision machines in the first place. They are less common in inexpensive machines because of the price. But because they are unequalled in stability and precision they were used in this PCB machine anyway.
High frequency spindle
In order to mill fine structures one needs a high frequency spindle. High rotation is required to obtain smooth milling tracks. The milling head has to be very precise because a small deviation leads to big errors. Colinbus PCB machines are offered with several milling motors: the Colinbus motor with 30.000 rpm or the well-known Jäger motors that can go up to 100.000 rpm.
Strong hybrid motors and adapted software
Making fast and small movements requires well adapted embedded software. In order to make nice circles special routines have been written. The electronics has been adapted to be able to transmit the high acceleration to the motors.
Colinbus CPR-30/PCB machines are delivered ready-for-use with all the necessary software for milling and drilling PCB’s. Reading of file formats (as Gerber (X) and Excellon) that are typical for this kind of jobs is no problem. Contrary to other software where a lot of knowledge is required to use these files it is only a matter of pushing buttons in the Colinbus software. It is fully automatized. If anything should be missing in the file that you or anybody else made, than you will not only be notified but the software will also guide you step-by-step to the correct result. Simplicity and power combined in one single software!
