Nidra is primarily a service company, but it is also a manufacturer and distributor of all sorts of accessories for the boating industry. We have a variety of specialists on staff, and we are essentially able to build or fabricate just about everything to do with boats. We are a lot less busy during the winter season, so we are very happy to be able to do work for the construction sector and other industrial sectors in addition to our boat work. Consequently, our CNC Studio machine is used for all sorts of purposes in addition to making parts for boats. In the winter, this milling work is actually our main source of income.
Complete interior design and finishing of boats, houses and shops
We handle the complete interior design and finishing of boats and we specialise in yacht renovation, but we are also fully capable of fitting out new boats. Nidra is located on the island of Krk, a popular tourist destination. As a result we have a lot work in restaurants and pubs, where there's something that needs renovation or remodelling every year.
High quality and reliability at low prices
Our most important customers are foreigners who have a boat berthed in Croatia or a second home here. The quality we deliver is certainly comparable to that in Europe, but our prices are much lower. Wages are naturally a lot lower here, and on top of that we work with fast machines that cost us a fraction what many of our European competitors pay for their machines, which reduces our depreciation costs.
Single-piece teak deck
One of our specialities is making ready-to-use teak decks. Everything is made exactly to measure in the factory, so all the installer has to do is to glue the deck on the boat, or in some cases to screw it in place. Any desired thickness is available, and the groove colour is freely selectable. At Nidra we have the largest available CNC Studio machine, so it would take a really large boat to exceed our capacity.
And now a CNC plasma machine as well
At Nidra we are not limited to interior work; we also provide complete maintenance and repair services for boat hulls and exteriors. We work with polyester, wood and steel. We can draw on several generations of experience, and we try to combine this with modern technology. Accordingly, our next investment will be a CNC Studio machine with plasma configuration. The boats that are built and maintained on the island are fairly light, mostly fishing boats and relatively small ferries. The table of the CNC Studio machine is heavy enough for the plates used in these boats. Right now the plates are cut out by hand, with the result that the shapes are not accurate and it takes a lot of work to assemble them and weld them together. In the near future we will cut the plates automatically, which will save a lot of time.
